Sophie’s Fur project proved to be quite a challenging and intricate endeavor. The entire project was crafted from two distinct fur items: one was a beautiful short mink coat, while the other was an elegant mink shawl. The primary difficulty with this particular project stemmed from the coat, which had numerous areas displaying visible signs of dry rot. When dry rot is present, it renders the affected fur unusable, meaning that if I attempted to incorporate it into the project, it would very likely fall apart during the process. To ensure the quality of the final product, I carefully assessed the good areas of fur and used cold tape to provide necessary support to all seams, along with applying cold cloth in the areas that were under stress. The total fur material measured an impressive 44 by 44 inches square. I crafted an inner border that went in one direction and complemented it with a wider outer border that extended in the opposite direction. Despite the challenges, I truly loved working on this intricate fur project.
